Company Profile

Rick Phillips, videographer, KTVA Productions - Custom Video Services since 1987, Portland, Oregon

KTVA-Milwaukie-Ch.3 began in 1987, broadcasting over the cable television system in Milwaukie, Oregon. Though production of commercial spots and a live, viewer phone-in show was indeed worthwhile, documenting special events, primarily wedding days, also proved rewarding. When broadcasting ceased in 1989, Rick examined the focus of his efforts. He continued to produce projects for corporate clients and understanding the importance of preserving special events via the magic of videotape, owner Rick Phillips continued to offer this service as well.

"Back then I used VHS and ¾" tape, transitioning to S-VHS and BetaCam, then digital videotape (DV) and computerized editing, and now High Defintion Video, yet my classic, journalistic style remains true, it’s still ‘the shot.’ Though I work on a variety of marketing and training projects for companies large and small, including programming for MSNBC, CNN, The Travel Channel and The Learning Channel, I still enjoy preserving special events."

Always fascinated with photography and impressed by the professionalism of some photographers, Rick now offers digital photography as well.

Winner of eight National awards, Rick is active in the Association of Catering and Event Professionals (ACEP), a member since 1996, and is now serving his third term on the Board of Directors. He has been a member of the Media Communications Association-International (MCA-I, formerly the ITVA) since 1994, and served on the Executive Committee of the Portland Chapter for ten years, including chapter President in 2000-2001. He was awarded the Pilot's Award by the MCA-I Portland Chapter Executive Committee on June 16, 2001.

KTVA Productions is a long-standing member (since 1992) of the Wedding and Event Videographers Association (WEVA).

KTVA Productions is a member of the Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA), joining in 2005.

He is a Notary Public and an ordained Minister.

Rick is one of twelve freelance videographers for Clackamas County Government Television, once again producing locally oriented programming.

On December 3, 2003, the Oregon State Film and Video Office's Executive Director, Veronica Rinard, presented Rick with the Industry Leader Award for the video he produced to help promote both the passage of Senate Bill 79, the Oregon Production Investment Fund, and continued funding for the Oregon State Film and Video Office. Produced for Industry Day, March 18, 2003,

Portland videographer

He credits success to the support of his family, friends, colleagues (25% of his business originates from referrals by fellow video producers), and networking with related industry professionals.
